Our Activities

Our Activities
A graduate school of environmental and energy engineering (WEEE) started in 2007 at Waseda University. A practical, interdisciplinary education and research has been pursued there in which related institutions (Private/Industry/Government/Academia) both inside and outside Waseda cooperate their efforts. A future oriented education and research has been conducted in our graduate school which seeks to solve contemporary problems in our society. At the same time, we have been pursuing our research in such ways to ensure the survival and keeping of the basic necessities of life of our future generations and of people in the developing countries. For these goals, we shifted our emphasis from upon the exploration of techniques from mass-production, mass-consumption, and abandon on a large scale, to upon that of strategies to establish a sustainable developing society. In term of our international exchange, we have entered into agreements for academic intercourse with 539 institutions of 75 countries. Especially, as of May 1, 2007, we have accepted 2435 students from 204 academic institutions of Asia Africa. Furthermore, we are planning to accept 8000 international students in 5 years beginning from this year. The present project is one of our efforts to become a university open to the world.

Project Summery

Project Summery
We are planning to train environmental leaders who seeks to solve global environmental issues (especially, those related to production, circulation of natural resources and energy, in addition, several issues related to the legal system and regional correspondence) and problems of company activities through the combined international efforts among industries, academic institutions, and governments. By environmental leaders, we chiefly mean those who can technically as well as institutionally deal with representatives of other countries through interdisciplinary approaches with foreign languages fluency and with understandings of other cultures. In our masterユs degree
programs, we emphasize the academic integrated and practical approaches and, of course, intensive language training. Our classes with emphasis on regional issues and OJT through joint researches with various industries have gained a high-level reputation so far. In our doctorユs degree program, we offer joint researches between international and Japanese students. We plan to offer multiple-degrees such as double degrees and dual-degrees. Also, we plan to introduce courses which enable joint researches for alumni.
